A federal public safety organisation is modernising how field officers capture and share operational reports. This senior Application Manager role combines Agile/Scrum delivery and change management to run an in-house reporting application used by field teams, coordinating incident and problem management while acting as a Product Owner proxy for business stakeholders.
The mission
The team is part of a business unit responsible for applications used by officers on duty. The technical delivery is handled in-house and the development team currently includes an analyst, a technical lead and five developers. Work covers backlog refinement, sprint delivery, release planning and post-deployment support for a live application that must remain available to operational units.
Day to day you will align internal and external technical teams, facilitate the daily scrum and act as the primary interface between users and developers. You will take ownership of backlog prioritisation and sprint scope, verify and improve documentation, and manage communications around incidents and planned releases. You will also coach team members and share best practices across the business unit to raise operational efficiency.
Your responsibilities
- Coordinate and align technical and delivery teams to ensure continuous availability and performance of the field reporting application
- Own backlog management and prioritisation, writing and refining user stories to maximise value delivered each sprint
- Lead incident and problem management activities, drive root cause analysis and ensure timely communication to management, users and suppliers
- Plan and validate releases with development and deployment teams, including pilot rollouts and production check-ins
- Improve delivery processes and guardrails, introduce pragmatic change management practices and maintain up-to-date documentation
- Coach and develop the development team, promote cross-team knowledge sharing and support supplier relationships
Your profile
Essential skills
- Senior-level experience operating as an Application Manager or Product Owner in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Proven capability in change management, incident and problem management for production applications
- Strong stakeholder communication skills, able to present technical status to management and operational users clearly
- Experience working in the public sector or with public safety organisations, understanding of confidentiality and discretion requirements
- Demonstrable people management or team coaching experience, able to improve team delivery and quality
- Practical experience with backlog writing, sprint planning and release coordination
