A major Belgian financial institution is expanding its Functions domain architecture team to define application and technical solutions for Communication and Support Functions, Marketing Communication and ALM-T Finance. This Banking Domain Architect will work on functional and application architecture, architectural modelling and stakeholder alignment, applying Scrum and project management practices to design and document reference architectures and solution patterns.
The mission
The role sits in the Functions domain, which covers Finances, HR, Facilities, Procurement and Communications. You will contribute to domain-level architecture work: defining project and asset architectures, maintaining the application portfolio strategy, and producing reference architecture and system maps that guide multiple internal development teams and package implementations.
Day to day you will analyse business needs in Support Functions (Legal, Compliance, Risk) and ALM-T Finance, translate them into target application architectures and technical interfaces, and present those architectures in architectural committees. You will support delivery teams before and after production rollout, enforce architectural urbanization rules, and keep architectures simple and maintainable while tracking relevant technology evolutions such as cloud and middleware.
Your responsibilities
- Lead the definition and documentation of domain and project architectures, producing application diagrams, service and technical interface definitions that teams can implement
- Drive alignment with stakeholders by presenting target architectures, city plans and architectural principles in committees and workshops
- Enforce architectural rules and review implementation choices before and after production deployment to ensure conformity with reference architecture
- Analyse existing applications and contribute application portfolio strategies and migration paths for simplification and reuse
- Advise delivery teams on technology choices across software development, middleware, networking and cloud to reduce integration risk
- Monitor emerging technologies and propose where they can be incorporated into the Functions domain architecture
Your profile
Essential skills
- Minimum 5 years of relevant IT architecture experience, with hands-on experience in functional, technical and application architecture
- Ability to produce architectural models and artefacts, and to communicate them clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Practical experience with Scrum and project management, working within agile teams to shape architecture incrementally
- Strong understanding of software development technologies, infrastructure, middleware, networking and cloud concepts
- Proven experience defining and maintaining reference architectures and architectural urbanization rules
- Effective communicator and collaborator, able to negotiate trade-offs and drive decisions in cross-functional teams
Preferred skills
- Experience with ArchiMate or enterprise modelling languages
- Background in Support Functions (Legal, Compliance, Risk) or ALM-T Finance
- Familiarity with application lifecycle tools and architecture governance processes
