The organisation is a public infrastructure operator responsible for large-scale operational data and regulatory reporting. This role exists to translate business reporting needs into scalable BI solutions, working on Power BI development, dimensional modelling, and migration work from an existing SAP BI environment to a modern BI layer.
The mission
You will join a team that builds and maintains the organisation's reporting backbone, feeding operational and management decision-making with reliable datasets and performant semantic models. The technical landscape combines a traditional data warehouse approach, SQL-based source extractions, and a new Power BI semantic layer; the migration from SAP BI to Power BI is a core initiative over the coming 12 to 24 months.
On a daily basis you will act as the bridge between business stakeholders and data engineers. You will analyse source systems, define dimensional models, create semantically rich Power BI datasets, and deliver complex reports and dashboards. Your work ensures that reporting analysts can produce accurate visualisations and that the BI layer supplies the right insights to operations and management.
Your responsibilities
- Translate business reporting requirements into clear BI specifications and dimensional modelling designs that data engineers can implement.
- Build and optimise Power BI semantic models and develop complex reports and dashboards using DAX to deliver actionable insights.
- Lead the migration of reports and universes from SAP BI into the Power BI environment, ensuring functional parity and improved performance.
- Validate source data and SQL extracts, troubleshooting data quality or transformation issues with the data engineering team.
- Coach reporting analysts on using the semantic layer and support them in maintaining and iterating dashboards.
- Document models, data flows and business rules to keep the BI layer maintainable and auditable.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Senior-level experience in BI and reporting, typically 5+ years delivering enterprise reporting solutions.
- Practical expertise in Power BI, including semantic modelling, DAX and report development.
- Strong grasp of dimensional modelling and data warehouse design concepts.
- Proficient in SQL for source analysis and data validation.
- Clear communicator able to capture business needs and translate them into technical specifications.
Preferred skills
- Experience with SAP BI universes and report migration projects.
- Familiarity with project management reporting and performance indicators in operational environments.
