A large public sector organisation maintains a mixed on-premise and cloud infrastructure that supports collaboration services, virtualised workloads and corporate storage. This role exists to strengthen the infrastructure team on Azure Active Directory and VMware NSX operations, focusing on hybrid cloud integration, identity and Teams VoIP integration, and NetApp storage optimisation.
The mission
You will work inside the infrastructure team that owns server estates, virtualization platforms and the integration between on-premise services and Microsoft 365. The current landscape includes Windows Server domains, NetApp storage arrays, VMware-based virtualisation and hybrid Azure Active Directory tenants; the team runs routine maintenance, security hardening and tenant-to-tenant migrations for Office 365.
Day to day you will design and implement high-level infrastructure changes, validate production deployments and resolve escalated incidents. Typical responsibilities include architecting AD/PKI integration, operating VMware NSX and Tanzu/container hosts, tuning NetApp storage, and implementing Teams VoIP integrations; your work feeds into tactical roadmaps and procurement specifications.
Your responsibilities
- Lead architectural designs for identity, virtualisation and hybrid cloud components, delivering documented designs that match capacity and availability requirements
- Implement and validate infrastructure changes in test and production environments, ensuring deployments meet documented requirements and recovery objectives
- Analyse monitoring data and logs to detect deviations, drive root cause analysis and deliver persistent fixes
- Operate and tune storage and virtualization platforms, including NetApp and VMware NSX, to improve performance and resilience
- Advise on procurement dossiers, prepare technical specifications and maintain CMDB entries for supported components
- Mentor other engineers on AD administration, PKI integration and hybrid Azure configurations to increase team capability
Your profile
Essential skills
- Infrastructure operations with at least 10 years of experience across Windows Server and virtualisation
- Active Directory administration and Microsoft PKI experience, minimum 5 years, including ADFS with PKI solutions
- Hands-on with Azure Active Directory and hybrid identity scenarios, including tenant-to-tenant migrations (4+ years)
- Proven experience with VMware platforms and VMware NSX, including network and security configuration (5+ years for VMware, 2+ years NSX)
- Operational knowledge of NetApp storage, Veeam backups and disaster recovery planning (2+ years)
- Scripting and automation using PowerShell, experience with SCCM and Office 365 administration
- Working knowledge of Linux distributions used in containers, and container platforms such as VMware Tanzu
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, WiFi and common protocols
