The Communication & Content Technologies department builds and operates the document generation, delivery and archiving services used across a large Belgian insurer. This role exists to define and protect the solution and functional architecture for those services, focusing on API-based architectures and integration patterns that connect document generation, orchestration/BPM and archival systems.
The mission
You will work in a transversal team that supports incoming and outgoing document flows for multiple business domains, handling synchronous REST APIs and asynchronous, event-driven integrations between legacy systems, content engines and delivery channels. The landscape includes orchestration and BPM tooling, enterprise integration patterns, UML-based modelling and Enterprise Architecture artefacts; your work shapes how communications are generated, routed and archived at scale.
On a day-to-day basis you will analyse business requirements, translate them into end-to-end functional and solution architectures, and produce architecture diagrams and UML models that drive implementation. You will work with project leads, technical architects and development teams to validate feasibility, define interfaces and hand over implementation guidance, while contributing to the architectural roadmap and governance for cross-cutting communication services.
Your responsibilities
- Design and document end-to-end solution architectures that ensure coherent document generation, delivery and archiving across multiple channels and business domains
- Define and enforce integration patterns, API contracts and event schemas to reduce coupling and enable asynchronous processing between legacy systems and new services
- Validate feasibility and quality by reviewing designs, trade-offs and nonfunctional requirements with development teams and infrastructure owners
- Anticipate architectural risks and dependencies, and translate them into roadmap items, implementation constraints and acceptance criteria
- Facilitate cross-team alignment by producing UML diagrams, sequence flows and Enterprise Architecture deliverables that stakeholders can act on
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven senior experience as a Functional Architect or Solution Architect in complex, multi-stakeholder IT environments
- Strong mastery of modern architecture principles and patterns, including Domain Driven Design (DDD), API-based architectures and orchestration/BPM
- Solid experience with integration architectures, especially REST APIs, asynchronous messaging and event-driven architectures
- Ability to model and document architectures and processes using UML and Enterprise Architecture tools, and to communicate those artefacts to technical and business teams
- Practised in assessing cloud architecture trade-offs and constraints, and advising on sustainable solution choices
- Autonomous, accountable and collaborative, with strong communication skills and the ability to influence architectural decisions
Preferred skills
- Familiarity with ArchiMate for enterprise modelling
- Hands-on experience or exposure to Microsoft Azure cloud services
