A major European financial services organisation is expanding its data quality capability to improve reporting accuracy and regulatory compliance. This senior data quality analyst will work on data profiling, SQL-based root cause analysis and automated checks across transactional and reference data, contributing to a multi-year data governance programme. The role requires strong SQL and data profiling experience and frequent collaboration with data engineering and business teams.
The mission
You will join a cross-functional data team responsible for the quality and consistency of customer, transactions and product datasets used by finance and risk reporting. The technical landscape includes relational data warehouses, ETL pipelines, and unit-tested data validation in Python, with dataset volumes in the tens to hundreds of millions of records. Delivering reliable data is critical to accurate regulatory filings and internal decision making.
Day to day you will design and implement data quality rules, run investigations into anomalies, and help operationalise monitoring so issues are caught before they reach reporting. You will work in a team of approximately 8 data engineers, 3 data stewards and several reporting analysts, and you will own end-to-end fixes for data quality incidents together with upstream system owners. Expect regular stakeholder sessions with finance, risk and IT to prioritise remediation work.
Your responsibilities
- Design and deploy automated data quality checks using SQL and data validation frameworks to reduce false positives and surface real errors
- Investigate data anomalies and trace defects back through ETL pipelines, producing reproducible analysis and corrective action plans
- Lead remediation projects with data stewards and source system teams to remove recurring root causes and improve upstream data capture
- Produce clear, actionable data quality metrics and dashboards that drive prioritisation for business and IT stakeholders
- Define and document data quality rules, acceptance criteria and test cases to be reused by engineering teams
- Coach junior analysts and share best practice in profiling techniques, validation patterns and SQL optimisation
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven experience as a data quality analyst or senior data analyst, 5+ years working with large relational datasets
- Strong SQL skills, able to write performant queries for profiling and validation across large tables
- Practical experience with data profiling and validation tools or frameworks, and with Python for scripting investigations
- Ability to translate business reporting requirements into measurable data quality rules and acceptance criteria
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams to implement fixes and automated monitoring
- Clear communication skills for presenting technical analysis to non-technical stakeholders
Preferred skills
- Experience with data governance concepts and tools
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms and modern ETL tooling
- Previous exposure to regulatory reporting domains (finance or risk)
This is a senior data quality analyst role with a strong emphasis on SQL-based profiling, automation and cross-team remediation.
