The organisation is a public-sector body responsible for administering agricultural subsidy payments, and it relies on a large bespoke information system. The operations team is rolling out a new CI/CD chain as part of a migration away from Atlassian Data Center tools; this role focuses on pipeline implementation and platform configuration using GitLab, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Docker and Kubernetes/Tanzu.
The mission
The project replaces the current CI/CD tooling that combines Bamboo and Bitbucket with a consolidated GitLab-based pipeline, and addresses the upcoming end of life for Atlassian Data Center products in March 2029. The technical landscape includes containerised builds, artifact management with Nexus, and static analysis via Sonar. The work matters because the CI/CD chain supports multiple business applications used for subsidy processing and compliance reporting.
On a day-to-day basis you will design and implement GitLab CI pipelines, configure runners and container orchestration, and integrate Nexus and Sonar into build and release flows. You will define governance and operational documentation for the new chain, run configuration and test activities, and provide second-line support for developer teams during and after the migration.
Your responsibilities
- Design and deliver GitLab CI/CD pipelines that replace existing Bamboo/Bitbucket workflows, ensuring repeatable, observable deployments
- Implement container build and deployment strategies using Docker and Kubernetes or Tanzu, optimising for faster builds and smaller images
- Integrate Nexus and Sonar into the pipeline to guarantee artifact lifecycle management and code quality gates
- Define governance, branching and release policies, and document operational runbooks for platform maintainers and application teams
- Run configuration, test validation and cutover activities for the migration from Atlassian Data Center to GitLab, and track compliance with the March 2029 timeline
- Provide user support and coaching for development teams, capture feedback, and iterate pipeline templates for continuous improvement
Your profile
Essential skills
- Practical experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, and familiarity with Bamboo and Bitbucket migration scenarios
- Hands-on skills with Docker and Kubernetes, or Pivotal Tanzu, including creating images, registries and deployment manifests
- Experience integrating Nexus for artifact management and Sonar for static code analysis into automated pipelines
- Proven ability to produce clear technical documentation, runbooks and governance artefacts for platform usage
- Strong collaboration skills to work with developers, testers and platform operators, and orientation towards continuous improvement
- Medior level, typically 3 to 5 years of relevant CI/CD or DevOps experience
