A major public-sector organisation manages large citizen-facing services and is expanding its cloud platform to standardise deployments across ministries. This role exists to design and operate Azure-based solutions at scale, combining software development experience in .NET with platform engineering practices such as Azure DevOps, Terraform and Kubernetes.
The mission
The cloud team operates a mixture of cloud-native and hybrid systems that serve internal staff and external users, using Azure services including AKS, Service Bus, Functions, Azure SQL and data platform components. You will contribute to implementing Azure Landing Zones, governance and compliance patterns that apply across multiple programmes, and help the organisation move infrastructure to infrastructure as code at scale.
Day to day you will act as the technical lead for cloud architecture within one of the delivery squads and as an advisor to project managers and data teams. Typical activities include designing Terraform modules and Azure DevOps pipelines, reviewing .NET application designs for cloud readiness, defining networking and identity boundaries, and producing runbooks and architecture documentation. The team has around 10 cloud engineers and delivers services used by several thousand internal users and external caseworkers.
Your responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of Azure Landing Zones and governance policies that ensure secure, compliant multi-subscription deployments
- Drive infrastructure as code initiatives by authoring and reviewing Terraform modules and automation for repeatable, testable deployments
- Architect and validate container orchestration and deployment patterns using Kubernetes, Helm and related tooling to improve scalability and observability
- Integrate application concerns into platform designs by reviewing .NET solutions for performance, resiliency and cloud-native patterns
- Define and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines and branching/versioning strategies to enable continuous delivery and safe change management
- Mentor and train junior engineers, produce runbooks, and present architecture decisions to cross-functional stakeholders
