A major Belgian insurer’s life IT organisation is expanding its distributed IS Life team to improve and maintain the systems that support life insurance products. This role exists to translate business requirements into scalable IT solutions, with a focus on .NET components, C# APIs and integration with a Microfocus Cobol back-end. The role combines functional analysis, solution design and hands-on follow-up of .NET web services.
The mission
The life business line runs core policy administration and contract management systems that handle tariffs, fund and reserve calculations, daily premiums and claims. The technical landscape mixes a Microfocus Cobol back-end and SQL Server databases with distributed C#/.NET services, REST/SOAP APIs and front-end integrations that serve brokers and bank channels. Work will typically sit on projects that modify subscription processes or add contract lifecycle features, with up to three concurrent projects per person.
Day to day you will take high-level requirements from business stakeholders, produce structured IT solutions and validate implementations. You will design user interfaces, define business logic and database impacts, produce functional integration test cases and participate in testing. You will coordinate with technical designers and programmers, occasionally inspect or produce SQL, and report progress to the IS project manager and business owners.
Your responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into structured IT solutions that cover UI, business logic and data architecture
- Design and specify .NET components and web services to integrate with Cobol Microfocus back-end systems
- Produce functional integration test cases and validate delivered features against business acceptance criteria
- Coordinate and review technical designs and developer work, ensuring alignment with solution specifications
- Analyse defects and propose corrective actions that balance delivery timelines and business risk
- Support project leaders by providing scope estimates, progress updates and functional guidance
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven experience as a functional designer or senior analyst in insurance or banking, minimum 5 years
- Strong functional analysis and IT solution design experience on large-scale projects
- Hands-on experience with .NET development, C# and web service design (REST/SOAP)
- Experience working with Cobol Microfocus back-end systems and writing/inspecting SQL for analysis
- Proficient with MS Office for documentation, workshops and specification deliverables
- Comfortable coordinating technical teams and communicating with non-technical business stakeholders
Preferred skills
- Experience with SQL Server, batch processes and policy administration systems
- Familiarity with Visual Studio, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices supporting .NET development
- Prior exposure to life insurance product design, subscription flows and contract management
