A large, regulated financial organisation runs multinational infrastructure platforms that support business applications and a move to cloud-based delivery. This role exists to maintain and evolve Windows-based operating environments and platform services, combining Windows L3 support, Cloud (IaaS, PaaS) expertise and PowerShell scripting to keep production services secure and available.
The mission
You will join an infrastructure team responsible for the technical base of Windows servers and workstations, container platforms and the platform services that sit on top of them. The technical landscape includes enterprise Windows environments, automation with PowerShell, cloud IaaS/PaaS components and integrations with identity and storage services. Your work keeps critical services online for a large user base and supports transformation to orchestrated, on-demand operations.
On a day-to-day basis you will own incidents and changes inside your perimeter, deliver engineering work (design, implement, maintain and troubleshoot), and produce automation and deployment artefacts. You will run root cause analysis and major incident management, define operational KPIs, partner with suppliers on technical deliverables and contribute to transformation projects that migrate workloads to more automated and cloud-friendly platforms.
Your responsibilities
- Maintain operational stability and security of Windows-based infrastructure and platform services, measured by agreed SLAs and KPIs.
- Define and document engineering standards, configuration management rules and operational procedures to reduce manual effort and risk.
- Build and deploy infrastructure components and automation artifacts, using PowerShell and platform tooling to automate recurring tasks and deployments.
- Lead incident diagnosis and remediation, perform root cause analysis and implement workarounds and permanent fixes for high-severity incidents.
- Collaborate with platform teams and suppliers to design and test migration or transformation solutions, focusing on cost optimisation and service continuity.
- Monitor performance, run capacity and system tuning activities, and contribute to security assessments and obsolescence plans.
Your profile

- Proven experience with Cloud IaaS and PaaS concepts, and practical experience integrating on-premises platforms with cloud services.
- Strong PowerShell scripting capability to automate operations and deployments.
- Demonstrable skills in problem determination, root cause analysis and major incident management.
- Solid understanding of IT and cyber security principles, architecture thinking and the ability to define relevant operational KPIs.
- Experience working with ITIL-aligned processes, incident and change management in production operations.
Preferred skills
- Experience with SQL, Orchestrator, SCCM, Active Directory, DNS, NAS and FaaS solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile ways of working and with supplier-managed delivery models.
