A large insurance IT department delivers and maintains a portfolio of non-life underwriting and claims applications built on a Microfocus mainframe emulator with Cobol components and .NET frontends. This medior IT Functional Analyst role exists to convert business requirements into structured functional designs, drive functional integration testing, and liaise between business stakeholders and technical teams working on multi-layer applications and integrations.
The mission
The IS department is about 100 people organised in cross-functional teams responsible for end-to-end delivery of insurance applications used by underwriting and claims teams. The technical landscape includes a Microfocus mainframe emulator running Cobol and Mix Cobol+, .NET frontends, CRM modules, printing services and multiple integration layers. The work supports ongoing feature deliveries and maintenance over the next 12 months, with typical projects following Prince2-aligned governance.
On a day-to-day basis you will translate business requirements into a functional solution and help shape the technical design with architects and developers. You will prepare and execute functional integration test cases, validate delivered behaviour against business expectations, coordinate technical designers and programmers during implementation, and report progress to project leads. You will also analyse and propose corrective actions after testing and support release activities.
Your responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into clear, structured functional designs that can be implemented by technical teams
- Prepare, run and document functional integration test cases and validate fixes before user acceptance
- Coordinate technical designers and developers during implementation to ensure solutions meet the functional specification
- Analyse incidents from testing, propose corrective actions and follow up to resolution
- Communicate functional decisions and status updates to business stakeholders and project leaders
- Support project delivery by applying project and test management principles during phased releases
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven experience as an IT Functional Analyst, mid-level (roughly 2–5 years), preferably inside a large company
- Strong experience with multi-layer applications and integration points
- Domain experience in non-life underwriting insurance, demonstrating understanding of business processes
- Good analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills, able to work autonomously and in teams
- Ability to prepare and execute functional integration test cases and document results
Preferred skills
- Hands-on knowledge of Cobol and working with a Microfocus mainframe emulator
- Experience with .NET, SQL, CRM systems, printing services and integration technologies
- Familiarity with project leading principles (Prince2) and test management principles (TMAP)
- Experience in technical analysis and coordinating developers during implementation
