A major Belgian financial services group runs several customer-facing platforms and digital products. This Product Owner role exists to lead a cross-functional Scrum team, owning the product backlog and roadmap, and to deliver prioritized features using agile methodologies and product backlog management, with a strong emphasis on stakeholder alignment and PSPO-level product governance.
The mission
You will join a cross-functional Scrum team that includes analysts, developers and testers, working alongside a Scrum Master to deliver iterative releases of a core retail product. The role focuses on defining the product’s big picture, translating that roadmap into prioritized backlog items, and ensuring consistency across sprints. Work will follow Scrum ceremonies and agile rituals to deliver business value each sprint.
On a day-to-day basis you will clarify requirements into concise functional specifications, run iteration planning and live backlog adjustments, and act as the authority to arbitrate delivered functionalities. You will engage with business stakeholders and technical teams to keep the roadmap realistic, monitor delivery quality, and report progress to senior stakeholders. The assignment is planned over a 12-month delivery cycle beginning Q1 2026, with ongoing governance around budget and project milestones.
Your responsibilities
- Define and maintain the product backlog, continuously prioritizing items to maximise business value and sprint outcomes
- Translate business needs into clear functional specifications and acceptance criteria that the development team can implement
- Make timely decisions on scope and delivered functionality, acting as product authority during sprint reviews and demos
- Align and negotiate with stakeholders across business and IT to preserve product consistency and roadmap commitments
- Lead iteration planning, participate in retrospectives and test labs to improve delivery quality and team performance
- Monitor budget and project milestones, escalating risks and proposing mitigations to senior management
Your profile
Essential skills
- Minimum 5 years of product ownership or product management experience in an agile context
- PSPO certification or equivalent, demonstrated understanding of Scrum roles and agile principles
- Proven ability to work with technical teams, translate technical constraints into product decisions
- Track record in backlog management, prioritisation and iteration planning
- Experience with budget management and project governance at product level
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and leadership capabilities
Preferred skills
- Technical background or hands-on technical experience is a plus
- Previous business experience in regulated financial products or related services is advantageous
- Knowledge of the wheels / automotive sector is a plus but not required
