The role sits inside a payments operations function of a large financial services organisation, reinforcing the KYC/AML first line of defence to manage merchant onboarding volumes and KYC remediation. Day-to-day work combines merchant onboarding and transaction monitoring tasks, using screening tools such as Dow Jones and client databases like Salesforce to assess legal documents and UBO proofs.
The mission
This position supports a KYC/AML/RCT team responsible for onboarding medium- and high-risk merchants and running remediation exercises to ensure regulatory compliance with AML/CFT frameworks including the Belgian Law of 18/09/2017 and EU AML5/6. The work affects merchant acceptance decisions, ongoing monitoring quality, and regular recertification of merchant files.
You will review onboarding files, investigate alerts from monitoring systems, and prepare structured analyses for escalation to Compliance or the internal validation committee. You will collaborate with business teams to obtain missing documentation, contribute to portfolio recertification exercises, and feed monthly statistics that measure throughput and resolution times. This is a junior role expected to integrate quickly into established processes and help standardise file notes and checklists.
Your responsibilities
- Review and assess medium- and high-risk merchant onboarding files, ensuring legal documentation and UBO evidence meet AML/CFT requirements.
- Produce clear validation sheets and structured escalation reports for the second line of defence, highlighting risk typologies and recommended actions.
- Investigate alerts from transaction monitoring systems, gather evidence, and draft analysis notes that support suspicious activity reporting when needed.
- Drive KYC remediation work by reclassifying risk where appropriate, identifying incomplete files, and following up with merchants to close gaps.
- Maintain and contribute to monthly reporting on alerts processed, average resolution time, and remediation progress.
- Propose and help implement process improvements such as standard note templates and onboarding checklists to increase consistency and throughput.
