A major financial institution's Technology and Market Data procurement team needs a Senior Buyer to manage cloud and software sourcing and vendor relationships. This role sits in a central procurement function responsible for software procurement, SaaS contracting and cloud computing cost models, and the buyer will drive supplier selection, contract negotiation and software asset management activities.
The mission
The team operates at the intersection of IT and procurement, running category management for software and market data, implementing group-level IT procurement strategy and optimising total cost of ownership for cloud and SaaS spend. Work covers commercial and contractual models for software and cloud services, supplier risk and performance assessment, and integration with procurement tools and processes.
Day to day you will lead large or complex sourcing events and manage a portfolio of software and cloud suppliers, ensuring suppliers deliver to agreed SLAs and commercial terms. You will prepare business cases and cost models, run negotiations and deal-closing activities, participate in steering committees with suppliers and users, and work with legal, finance and compliance to ensure contracts are fit for purpose.
Your responsibilities
- Lead sourcing and negotiation for software, SaaS and cloud contracts, delivering measurable cost savings and improved supplier terms
- Manage supplier performance and risk, driving remediation plans and enforcing contractual service levels
- Produce financial analysis and TCO models to inform sourcing decisions and demand management
- Coordinate cross-functional procurement projects with IT, legal and compliance to implement contract controls and licensing governance
- Shape and close deals, including complex commercial structures and global contract rollouts
- Report regularly on portfolio performance, savings realised and supplier risk to stakeholders
Your profile
Essential skills
- Minimum 8 years experience in technology procurement, with substantive exposure to software procurement, SaaS and cloud computing
- Demonstrable experience in software asset management and software licensing models
- Strong negotiation and deal closing capabilities, with experience shaping complex contracts
- Solid skills in project management, reporting, financial analysis and risk assessment
- Good legal and contractual knowledge relevant to IT and SaaS agreements
- Able to challenge internal stakeholders, synthesize complex information and work autonomously
Preferred skills
- Practical experience with procurement platforms such as Ivalua or Ariba
- Familiarity with market data suppliers and cloud cost metrics
