A large public-sector organisation in social security and healthcare is running a multi-year infrastructure modernisation programme to move core services to cloud-native platforms and strengthen network and security posture. This role exists to lead infrastructure projects end-to-end, combining hands-on technical coordination in OpenShift/Kubernetes and network architecture with project governance tools such as Prince2 and ITIL.
The mission
The programme covers migration and stabilisation of production services into Google Cloud and container platforms, consolidation of LAN/WAN and cloud networking, and rollout of enhanced security tooling (ATP, NDR, EDR, PKI, intrusion and data leak detection). Work feeds into platform teams that support national-scale services with strict SLAs and regulatory security requirements.
You will manage the full project lifecycle for infrastructure deliveries, from initial scoping and planning to implementation and acceptance. That means defining scenarios, detailed schedules and budgets, running regular progress and risk reporting in Jira and Confluence, coordinating network, security and application teams, and ensuring deployments on OpenShift/AKS or VMware-based virtualised environments meet SLA and security requirements.
Your responsibilities
- Lead and deliver infrastructure projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and compliance with security and SLA requirements
- Translate technical designs into a detailed, executable project plan, including timelines, resource allocation, vendor coordination and acceptance criteria
- Drive hands-on coordination of deployments to OpenShift/Kubernetes and AKS, and oversee virtualization work on VMware environments
- Manage stakeholder communication and escalation with clear reporting in Jira and Confluence, and facilitate decision forums and change control
- Mitigate risks and resolve blockers related to network architecture, cloud networking (VNets, subnets, NSGs, firewalls) and security tooling
- Coach and coordinate the delivery team, align cross-functional parties, and ensure post-deployment handover and operational runbooks are in place
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven experience leading infrastructure projects with operational accountability, including hands-on coordination of deliveries
- Strong knowledge of OpenShift or Kubernetes and containerised deployment patterns, including AKS and Docker
- Solid understanding of virtualization technologies such as VMware and platform migration approaches
- Demonstrable network architecture skills covering LAN/WAN and cloud networking concepts (VNets, subnets, NSGs, firewalls)
- Working knowledge of security controls and tooling: ATP, NDR, EDR, PKI, intrusion detection, data leak detection and security best practices
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, database considerations for platform moves, and integration via SOAP and REST APIs
- Experienced in Prince2 and ITIL governance, and fluent with Jira and Confluence for planning, tracking and reporting
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with a methodical approach to prioritisation and coordination
Education
- University degree or equivalent experience in IT, engineering or related field
