A Digital Workplace organisation runs a specialised squad for Remote Applications Services & Printing that provides Citrix-based virtual desktops and large-scale printing for enterprise users. This Subject Matter Expert Infrastructure role focuses on Citrix (XenApp/CVAD), Hosted Virtual Desktop (HVD) operations and printing solutions, and includes Powershell automation and Windows Server (AD, GPO) lifecycle tasks to support an ongoing migration to cloud-hosted platforms.
The mission
The squad manages the full lifecycle of Citrix platforms including XenApp (CVAD), Citrix Workspace App configurations, StoreFront, WEM and Citrix Director, plus roaming pull printing and direct printing solutions. The work impacts a large enterprise environment and feeds into a programme to migrate Citrix services to the group cloud, improve operational stability and standardise patch and capacity management.
Day to day you will provide advanced 3rd level support and operational ownership for Citrix, HVD and printing platforms, guide application owners through their migration to cloud-hosted delivery, and collaborate with group partners to maintain service reliability. You will also write and maintain technical runbooks and user-facing documentation, automate repetitive tasks with Powershell, and contribute to release and patch management activities.
Your responsibilities
- Lead advanced troubleshooting and incident resolution for Citrix (XenApp/CVAD), HVD and printing platforms to restore service and reduce recurrence
- Drive the migration of Citrix-related services to cloud-hosted solutions, coordinating with application owners and group partners to ensure compatibility and continuity
- Improve operational automation using Powershell to reduce manual interventions and accelerate deployments
- Maintain and evolve capacity, patch and lifecycle management processes for Citrix and printing estates
- Produce and keep up-to-date technical documentation and runbooks to support 2nd and 3rd level teams and application owners
- Advise on printing architecture and large-scale printing solutions, including SNMP and 802.1x integration, to ensure secure and reliable printing for mobile and office users
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven senior experience as a Citrix specialist, able to operate across XenApp/CVAD, StoreFront and Citrix Director
- Hands-on experience with Hosted Virtual Desktop (HVD) operations and lifecycle management
- Strong Windows Server expertise, including AD and GPO administration
- Practical Powershell scripting skills to automate operations and support migrations
- Experience with large-scale printing solutions, SNMP and 802.1x configuration and troubleshooting
- Experience in enterprise migration projects and working with application owners
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary agile squad
Preferred skills
- Basic networking knowledge, including proxy, routing and local firewall concepts
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools and operational processes
