A major Belgian financial institution runs a central Tribe responsible for delivery of its retail digital channels, and this role exists to coordinate end-to-end test automation and quality across that Tribe. The position focuses on API testing (Java RestAssured, Karate), service virtualization (WireMock, MockServer) and UI automation (Playwright, Appium) while working with squads to integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines like Jenkins and GitLab-CI.
The mission
The Tribe owns digital channels for individual customers and employees, organised across about 30 agile squads. The technical landscape combines microservices, public and private APIs, browser and mobile frontends, and CI/CD pipelines; the Tribe Test Engineer refines the tribe-level test strategy to reduce release risk, decrease flakiness and increase automated coverage across this estate.
On a day-to-day basis you will coordinate with squad test leads and DevOps to review and improve API and UI automation, introduce or tune service virtualization, and embed automated execution in Jenkins/GitLab-CI. You will run workshops, monitor automation metrics (execution time, flakiness, coverage), escalate and remove blockers, and report progress to product and tribe leadership to align automation priorities with release timelines.
Your responsibilities
- Define and evolve the tribe test automation strategy to improve release confidence and lower manual testing effort
- Review and improve squad-level API and UI automation frameworks for scalability, reliability and maintainability
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines and validate automated gating on feature branches and release pipelines
- Introduce and operate service virtualization to enable early, reliable API testing when back-end components are unavailable
- Train and mentor squad members on BDD, test frameworks and cross-browser/device automation to raise overall test maturity
- Monitor automation KPIs, investigate flaky test patterns, and present data-driven recommendations to product owners and engineering leadership
