Several public-facing services are being migrated to a mobile-first architecture while failing accessibility audits, creating a backlog of UX debt that stalls releases. As a UX Designer you will use Figma and Adobe XD to design mobile-first prototypes and apply WCAG 2.1 accessibility criteria so research leads directly to shipped interfaces.
The Mission
Join a multidisciplinary product team responsible for a portfolio of web and mobile applications for a major public sector programme. The current technical landscape mixes mobile-first prototyping, an ageing design system and inconsistent accessibility practice, which creates duplicated work across squads and prevents reliable releases.
You will own research planning and delivery, translate insights into low- and high-fidelity prototypes, and drive design system updates that cut implementation time and variability. Your impact will be visible in faster developer acceptance, improved usability metrics from testing, and a measurable reduction in accessibility defects.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead user research and recruitment for interviews, surveys, focus groups and usability tests, producing prioritized insights that reduce scope uncertainty.
- Design and deliver mobile-first prototypes in Figma and Adobe XD to validate interaction patterns and accelerate developer handover.
- Own design system maintenance and evolution, creating reusable components, documentation and tokens to reduce implementation time across teams.
- Embed WCAG 2.1 accessibility criteria into wireframes, prototypes and acceptance criteria, lowering accessibility defects at release.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops and alignment sessions using Conceptboard and Mentimeter so teams converge on solutions faster.
- Collaborate closely with analysts and developers, provide Axure prototypes and annotated specs to ensure the built product reflects user needs.
Your Profile
Essential Skills
- Senior UX design experience, proven in end-to-end delivery for web and mobile services.
- Expert prototyping skills in Figma and Adobe XD, capable of producing production-ready assets and click-through prototypes.
- Proficiency with Axure for complex interaction modelling and with Conceptboard and Mentimeter for collaborative workshops.
- Deep knowledge of WCAG 2.1, with practical experience translating guidelines into testable acceptance criteria.
- Strong user research practice, including participant recruitment, moderated interviews, surveys, focus groups and usability testing.
- Clear communicator who converts research outcomes into actionable designs and prioritised backlog items for development teams.
- Portfolio with case studies required, applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
