This role sits inside a public sector ICT team responsible for the network and IP telephony estate that supports citizen-facing services. The team maintains and evolves a multi-site network and contact centre environment, so the position combines hands-on network administration with telephony and contact centre exposure, using technologies such as Cisco, Fortigate, DNS, Microsoft Windows, TCP/IP and VPN.
The mission
The team operates a multi-site LAN/WAN and IP telephony platform that carries administrative applications and citizen services for several offices. The technical landscape includes Cisco switches and wireless controllers, Nexus routers, Fortigate firewalls, DNS and Windows server environments, plus contact centre components. You will work on capacity and availability for thousands of internal users and maintain resilience between sites.
As a junior network and telephony administrator you will perform day-to-day operations and take on configuration tasks defined by the network architecture team. Typical activities include device configuration and replacement, firewall rule management, VPN link setup, monitoring and incident support at level 2 and level 3, plus routine IP telephony administration and participation in contact centre rollouts. The initial assignment runs May to August 2026 and can be renewed quarterly through 2026.
Your responsibilities

- Implement and maintain Fortigate firewall policies and VPN links to secure traffic between sites and remote users.
- Configure and troubleshoot DNS, VLANs, proxy and routing issues to ensure service continuity for Windows-based applications.
- Provide level 2 and level 3 incident support, diagnosing network and telephony faults and documenting root causes and mitigations.
- Deploy and maintain network monitoring and capacity tools to track traffic patterns and recommend infrastructure adjustments.
- Support IP telephony and contact centre deployments, updating dial plans, user provisioning and integrating telephony components with the network.
