A major Belgian public sector organisation maintains a core case management application called Itinera and a set of peripheral services used by internal business teams. This role exists to coordinate development and maintenance of those applications and to combine hands-on delivery with project management, using Java 21+, Spring Boot, Angular and OpenShift as the primary technologies.
The mission
You will manage the delivery lifecycle for software features and maintenance for the Itinera application and related modules, working across functional analysts, product owners and external suppliers. The technical landscape includes backend services in Java 21+, Spring Boot and Hibernate, frontend interfaces using Angular and PrimeFaces, and CI/CD pipelines on Jenkins/GitLab that deploy to OpenShift. The work matters because these applications support statutory business processes and must remain reliable, auditable and up to date.
Day to day you will both coordinate and contribute: plan and track project milestones, unblock development work, run code reviews and occasionally implement or review code changes. You will own release planning, configuration of deployment pipelines and production monitoring, act as first point of contact for external vendors, and organise skills development and capacity planning for the development team.
Your responsibilities
- Coordinate cross-functional deliveries to ensure agreed features and fixes are released on schedule and meet quality criteria
- Deliver technical leadership by reviewing architecture choices, running code reviews and contributing hands-on to Java 21+ backend work
- optimise and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment configurations so releases are reliable and repeatable on OpenShift
- Manage supplier relationships and third-party contracts to ensure external work integrates cleanly with in-house development
- Lead capacity planning and people development, translating strategic IT objectives into team-level goals and individual development plans
- Implement application monitoring and testing practices to reduce incidents and improve mean time to resolution
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven experience as a senior IT project coordinator combining technical delivery and project management responsibilities
- Strong hands-on Java 21+ development skills, including Spring Boot and Hibernate
- Frontend experience with Angular and PrimeFaces, able to review and guide UI work
- Practical experience with OpenShift and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab, plus SonarQube for code quality
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and working with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases
- Clear communicator able to run stakeholder meetings, perform capacity planning and coach junior developers
