A major Belgian water management organisation is building a new BI platform and migrating existing reporting from SAP BI into Power BI. The Business Information Analyst will work across data modelling, Power BI development and cooperation with data engineers to supply the business with accurate, performant dashboards and datasets, using Power BI, dimensional modelling and SQL.
The mission
The team delivers reporting and analytics that support operational control and regulatory reporting across water treatment and sewerage operations. The current programme combines two streams: building a new Power BI environment and a sap bi to power bi migration of existing universes and reports. The technical landscape includes Power BI (datasets, DAX, report layer), an on-premise SAP BI layer to be migrated, and a central data warehouse modelled for reporting.
Day to day you translate business questions into data requirements, create dimensional data models and build the more complex Power BI datasets and reports yourself. You will produce functional briefs and data specifications for data engineers, own the dimensional models used by reporting analysts, and deliver the complex dashboards that business stakeholders use for decision making. Typical stakeholders include operations managers, compliance teams and financial controllers; the team is cross-functional with 6-8 BI and analytics specialists.
Your responsibilities
- Design and deliver dimensional data models that enable performant reporting and reduce refresh and query time for business dashboards
- Translate business requirements into clear data engineering specifications and acceptance criteria for ETL and data warehouse work
- Build Power BI datasets and complex reports using DAX so that end users have trustworthy, self-service capable dashboards
- Lead the migration of SAP BI universes and reports to Power BI, validating data parity and report functionality during the sap bi to power bi migration
- Coach and support Data and Reporting Analysts in maintaining report universes and in applying best practices for visualisation and performance
- Validate data quality and reporting logic with business stakeholders, closing the loop between source systems and delivered insights
Your profile
Essential skills
- Experienced in Power BI development, including data modelling, DAX and report design
- Practical knowledge of SAP BI universes and experience migrating reports or universes into a new BI platform
- Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts, dimensional modelling and star/schema design
- Confident SQL skills to analyse source data and validate ETL outputs
- Able to quickly absorb business domain knowledge and translate it into measurable reporting requirements
