A Belgian public organisation responsible for the long term management of radioactive waste seeks a medior contract specialist to strengthen its Corporate Finances, Contracts and Business Controlling directorate. The role focuses on contract management and contractual negotiations for agreements with waste producers, technical partners and international agencies, and requires solid knowledge of Belgian legislation on radioactive waste and strong document management skills.
The mission
The Contracts cell supports the organisation's legal and operational framework for handling radioactive waste, ensuring agreements are robust, compliant and trackable over long timeframes. You will work on contracts that have a strong technical or scientific component, contribute to improving contractual processes and help maintain accurate contract databases and dashboards.
Day to day you will prepare, negotiate and close contracts and extensions, follow up on delivery and milestones, and act as the central contracts officer between operational teams, the legal unit and external partners. You will also contribute to tools and templates, improve document management practices and help the cell professionalise its approach to contract lifecycle management.
Your responsibilities
- Lead contract negotiations and closures to deliver clear, enforceable agreements that protect organisational interests and meet regulatory requirements.
- Drive contract follow up and resolution of blockers so dossiers progress to signature and execution on schedule.
- Coordinate stakeholders across operations, legal and external partners, aligning expectations and ensuring actions are assigned and tracked.
- Improve contract management processes and tools, producing dashboards, databases and templates that increase transparency and auditability.
- Translate technical or scientific inputs into precise contractual clauses that are operable and legally sound.
- Maintain structured document management for the contract portfolio, including version control and shared mailboxes.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven capability in contract management and contractual negotiations, ideally within technical, scientific or industrial contexts.
- Ability to interpret and apply Belgian legislation relevant to radioactive waste management and related compliance requirements.
- Strong document management skills, including organising contract files, version control and shared mailbox processes.
- Effective stakeholder management and decisive follow up, able to coordinate multiple internal and external parties.
- Clear written and verbal communication, able to draft contract clauses and summaries in English and in either Dutch or French.
- Medior level experience in contract roles, comfortable taking ownership and working with minimal supervision.
Preferred skills
- Practical experience with collaboration tools and office software, for example Copilot, OneNote and Microsoft Office.
