A public-sector IT organisation that supports several government administrations needs short-term consultancy to maintain and evolve its Tableau reporting platform. The role focuses on dashboard design with Tableau Desktop, data preparation using Tableau Prep Builder, and publishing and access management on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud. The assignment is scheduled for 20 days between ASAP and 31/12/2026 and sits inside the organisation's BI team supporting multiple administrative services.
The mission
The project is part of a continued programme to stabilise and modernise the organisation's business intelligence layer. You will work on existing Tableau workbooks that serve operational and management reporting, improving performance, clarity, and maintainability. The environment combines published data sources, extracts and live connections, and dashboards used by policy teams and operational units.
On a day-to-day basis you will design, build and refine dashboards in Tableau Desktop, prepare and transform datasets in Tableau Prep Builder, and publish workbooks to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud with correct project structure and access rights. You will also analyse load times, implement performance improvements and hand over clear documentation and operational guidance to the internal BI team and end users.
Your responsibilities
- Deliver clear, usable dashboards that reduce time-to-insight for business users, using Tableau Desktop and best practices in data visualization
- Prepare and transform data with Tableau Prep Builder so dashboards rely on consistent, tested datasets
- Publish and organise workbooks and published data sources on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, including access rights, refresh schedules and project structure
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues, optimising extracts, queries and filters to lower dashboard load times
- Validate data displayed in dashboards against source systems, including writing or adapting SQL where necessary
- Produce concise documentation and run brief handover sessions so BI colleagues and users can operate and maintain the delivered artefacts
Your profile
Essential skills
- 3+ years experience delivering Tableau dashboards with Tableau Desktop, creating interactive visualisations, filters, parameters and calculated fields
- Proven experience preparing and cleaning data with Tableau Prep Builder, including building flows and transforming datasets
- Practical knowledge of publishing and managing content on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, including permissions and refresh management
- Strong SQL skills for data validation and query optimisation
- Ability to communicate results clearly to non-technical stakeholders and produce concise technical documentation
