A national central bank is strengthening its data governance to make internal data assets more discoverable and trustworthy. The initiative centres on a data catalogue built on the open source platform OpenMetadata and requires expertise in data governance, metadata management and open source tooling to validate and optimise the current implementation.
The mission
The project aims to harmonise taxonomies, naming conventions and metadata practices so that business users and analysts can consistently find and understand datasets across the organisation. The data catalogue already contains metadata for several hundred data assets and must be aligned with governance processes, lineage tools and data quality workflows so it supports regulatory reporting and internal analytics.
You will assess the current OpenMetadata configuration, propose a target operating model and implement changes that improve discoverability, semantic consistency and trust in metadata. Day to day you will work with data stewards, data owners and platform engineers to refine the semantic layer, implement classifications and document governance rules, delivering configuration changes, guidelines and knowledge-transfer materials.
Your responsibilities
- Assess the existing data catalogue implementation and produce an actionable assessment report with configuration, modelling and adoption gaps.
- Design and implement a semantic layer and business glossary that codifies business definitions, relationships and ownership for key data domains.
- Configure OpenMetadata and related integrations to improve metadata capture, search relevance and lineage visibility.
- Define and roll out metadata governance rules, naming conventions and taxonomy/classification models to ensure consistency across teams.
- Collaborate with data stewards, platform engineers and stakeholders to onboard data assets and embed governance into delivery workflows.
- Document configurations, runbooks and training materials and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.
Your profile

- Senior experience, typically 7 to 10 years in data management, metadata or data governance roles.
- Proven ability to implement and configure data catalogue tools, ideally hands-on with OpenMetadata or comparable open source catalogues.
- Deep knowledge of metadata management, semantic modelling, business glossaries and taxonomy design.
- Strong capability to translate governance principles into operational configurations and adoption practices.
- Experience working across technical and business stakeholders and communicating complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Prior experience in regulated or public sector environments is a clear advantage.
Preferred skills
- Familiarity with ontology design or advanced classification models.
- Experience integrating catalogue platforms with data lineage, data quality and governance workflows.
Languages
- English, C1 (documentation and primary working language).
- French, B2 preferred for stakeholder conversations.
Education
- Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, data management or equivalent professional experience.
