A major Belgian public security organisation is expanding its Digital Transformation Office to modernise its core infrastructure. This role exists to create a small Linux/DBA team that will inventory and optimise a heterogeneous estate of Linux servers and database engines, and to implement automation and monitoring with tools such as Ansible, Terraform and OpenShift, and on-cloud platforms like Azure and AWS.
The mission
The project is part of a wider digital transformation that standardises foundations, improves operational efficiency and reduces infrastructure costs. You will work on mapping and analysing Linux server estates and associated databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, MSSQL and MariaDB, define optimisation axes and produce a prioritized roadmap with effort and timeline estimates.
On a day-to-day basis you will join a new 3-person intake forming the Linux/DBA team inside the Demand & Portfolio Management unit, collaborating with the CTO and platform teams. Your scope covers architecture and operational practices for Linux systems, database administration patterns, automation (Ansible, Terraform), container platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker), real-time monitoring and patch management, and hands-on support during rollout and knowledge transfer.
Your responsibilities
- Lead the inventory and technical mapping of Linux servers and database installations, delivering a clear, actionable overview of resource usage and main application consumers.
- Define and prioritise operational optimisations, producing a roadmap with estimated charges, sequencing and an indicative planning timeline.
- Implement and validate automation and configuration-as-code solutions using Ansible and Terraform to reduce manual interventions and standardise deployments.
- Improve monitoring and incident response by deploying or tuning metrics, alerts and dashboards for performance and security, enabling proactive remediation.
- Support operational teams with patching, backup and failover procedures, and resolve performance incidents to restore and stabilise production services.
- Produce technical documentation and run training sessions to transfer day-to-day operational competence to internal teams.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Proven senior experience operating Linux production environments, comfortable with RH/CentOS/Ubuntu administration and shell scripting.
- Strong database administration capability across multiple engines, specifically Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, MSSQL or MariaDB, including backup, restore and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools, notably Ansible and Terraform, and familiarity with container platforms (OpenShift or Kubernetes) and Docker.
- Practical knowledge of cloud infrastructure (Azure and/or AWS) and operating hybrid on-premise/cloud stacks.
- Clear communicator able to produce roadmaps, technical documentation and to run workshops for operational teams.
