A federal security organisation is modernising its mission-critical information flows and governance processes, and needs an experienced business analyst to translate operational requirements into clear business models and process designs. The role focuses on business process modelling using BPMN, applying UML for solution design, and working in Agile teams with Jira to deliver governed IT changes.
The mission
The project is a multi-year programme to update case management and decision support processes across several security departments, integrating new IT governance controls and replacing legacy process artefacts. The technical landscape includes BPMN process repositories, UML-based solution blueprints, and Agile delivery with Jira; the initiative supports several thousand internal users and is led by a cross-functional team of around 10 analysts and engineers.
Day to day you will map existing processes, author BPMN models and UML diagrams, and define business rules aligned with the organisation's IT governance framework. You will work with product owners, architects and operators to translate legal and operational constraints into implementable user stories and acceptance criteria, and support sprint planning through to acceptance testing.
Your responsibilities
- Translate operational needs into business models and BPMN process diagrams that drive development priorities and measurable operational improvements
- Lead requirements workshops and produce UML artefacts and clear user stories that developers and testers use directly in Jira
- Ensure solutions comply with the organisation's IT governance framework by defining traceability from requirements to controls and test cases
- Facilitate sprint planning, backlog grooming and stakeholder alignment in an Agile delivery cadence
- Validate delivered features through acceptance criteria and process validation with operational teams
- Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to junior analysts on modelling standards and governance practices
