The organisation is a large public utilities operator that manages critical infrastructure for municipal water services. This Senior Network Engineer role exists to design, deploy and operate the network and security architecture that keeps core services available, with hands-on work on Palo Alto firewall environments, DRP architecture and routing protocols such as BGP/OSPF.
The mission
The role sits in the IT infrastructure team responsible for network, security and connectivity across on‑prem and cloud systems. You will contribute to infrastructure projects and routine operations that protect availability and continuity for operational and administrative applications, and to the definition of technical standards for network segregation and security.
On a day-to-day basis you will take ownership of network architecture and disaster recovery planning, operate and evolve the firewall estate (Palo Alto, Panorama), and perform level‑3 incident management and monitoring. You will produce technical diagrams and clear documentation, validate project deliverables, and coach junior engineers to ensure consistent operations and handover across deployments.
Your responsibilities
- Design and validate network and DRP architecture, ensuring recovery objectives are met and documented
- Operate and evolve the Palo Alto firewall platform, including Panorama-based configuration management and rule lifecycle
- Resolve level‑3 incidents, reduce mean time to repair through monitoring and playbook improvements
- Implement and maintain DNS and DHCP services with a focus on reliability and clear change control
- Configure and optimise routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) to support resilient hybrid connectivity between on‑prem and cloud
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and schematics, and perform knowledge transfer to colleagues

- Practical experience with routing protocols BGP and OSPF in production environments
- Demonstrable experience in monitoring, incident management and reducing operational risk
- Clear technical documentation skills and ability to mentor junior engineers
Preferred skills
- Experience integrating on‑prem networks with cloud environments (hybrid network designs)
- Familiarity with network segmentation and security standards for critical infrastructure
