Role Overview
As a Senior System Engineer you will lead the development and maintenance of hypervisor clusters and Linux fleets that power sensitive operations. You'll design and implement Infrastructure as Code for VMware deployments, elevate system security and availability, and influence the technical roadmap across the team. Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain and upgrade hypervisor environments (VMware) to ensure high availability and rapid provisioning.
- Configure, deploy and administer Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat) across development, test and production environments.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code to automate VMware deployments and reduce manual provisioning while improving consistency and traceability.
- Ensure system security, performance and data availability through monitoring, patching, hardening and capacity planning.
- Diagnose complex incidents, drive root-cause analysis and deliver robust corrective actions and preventative improvements.
- Write and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures; supervise installation and maintenance tasks when required.
Required Skills
- Proven 10+ years of system administration experience in large-scale or highly available environments.
- Minimum 5+ years managing production Windows and Linux operating systems and system software.
- Strong Linux administration skills with hands-on experience on Ubuntu, Debian and Red Hat.
- Deep virtualization expertise, particularly with VMware and associated management tools.
- Hands-on experience implementing Infrastructure as Code to automate VMware deployments.
- Demonstrable experience applying security best practices in sensitive or regulated environments.
- Ability to obtain and hold a TOP SECRET security clearance as required by law.
- Fluency in Dutch or French plus a solid understanding of the other national language; strong written and spoken technical English.
