This is a federal public sector modernisation programme delivering a new eDossier platform, focused on cloud-native Java solutions, APIs, microservices and event-driven architecture. The role exists to combine hands-on Java cloud engineering with an experienced Scrum/Agile delivery master to keep multiple greenfield projects on schedule and quality standards, using Azure DevOps and agile frameworks such as SAFe and LeSS.
The mission
The programme is a multi-project modernisation effort to replace and consolidate legacy case handling systems into a cloud-first eDossier platform, with delivery expected until at least the end of 2028. The technical landscape includes Java SE10+ services, API design, microservices, event sourcing and event handling, deployed to hybrid cloud environments and coordinated through Azure DevOps. Work is organised in cross-functional squads composed of senior engineers, analysts and business stakeholders.
On a day-to-day basis you will act as a Solution Engineer and Scrum/Agile Delivery Master, responsible for designing and implementing APIs and microservices, running sprint events, and maintaining a medium-term release calendar that accounts for external dependencies. You will be a hands-on contributor in design and code reviews, and you will ensure the team delivers robust, secure production releases while applying SAFe or LeSS at scale where required.
Your responsibilities
- Drive reliable delivery outcomes by coordinating sprints, managing a release roadmap, and resolving external dependencies to meet programme timelines.
- Lead technical design and review of APIs, microservices and event-driven flows to ensure scalability, security and operational readiness.
- Implement and operate Azure DevOps pipelines and work item practices so that builds, tests and releases are repeatable and traceable.
- Coach and align engineering practices across squads, translating architectural choices into actionable implementation plans and trade-off recommendations.
- Reduce risk by identifying technical debt and proposing alternatives, plus hands-on contributions to prototypes or production code where needed.
Your profile
Essential skills
- 10+ years hands-on experience in Java SE and software design for cloud, APIs, microservices and eventing.
- 5+ years experience with Java SE10+ and with event-driven architecture, including event sourcing and event handling.
- 5+ years experience acting as a scrum/agile delivery master in greenfield projects that use APIs, microservices, eventing and cloud.
- 3+ years experience using Azure DevOps to manage agile delivery, pipelines and release processes.
- Practical experience implementing agile frameworks at scale, such as SAFe and LeSS.
- Ability to propose alternative technical solutions and justify recommendations in the broader programme context.
- Strong communicator, able to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders and to operate within a bilingual organisational environment.
