A national law enforcement IT directorate runs an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) programme that connects smart cameras, local edge equipment and central servers to support traffic safety and judicial workflows. This technical project role exists to oversee integration and migration work across existing infrastructures, with a strong emphasis on business continuity, backup and risk mitigation and infrastructure monitoring for distributed camera sites.
The mission
The ANPR programme combines camera hardware, network connectivity, on-premise servers and downstream databases that check plates against watchlists and access rules. The technical landscape includes LAN/WAN connectivity between police zones, VPN links to central services, firewalling at site perimeters and integration points into legacy information systems. The work matters because uninterrupted capture and reliable data flows directly affect operational policing tasks and judicial processes.
On a day-to-day basis you will lead technical project delivery for integration and migration projects within existing infrastructures, translate operational requirements into implementable technical designs, and coordinate installation and configuration across multiple stakeholders. You will work inside a multidisciplinary team composed of internal and external specialists, produce tracking and quality documentation in JIRA and Confluence, and report progress, risks and mitigation measures to programme governance. The assignment runs until the end of 2026 and requires close collaboration with zone IT teams and network operators.
Your responsibilities
- Lead delivery of integration and migration workstreams, ensuring camera and network rollouts meet operational availability targets
- Translate stakeholder requirements into technical designs for network architecture, VPN and firewalling, and validate those designs with zone teams
- Coordinate multi-actor deployment schedules, vendor activities and testing to minimise downtime and maintain business continuity
- Implement backup, recovery and risk mitigation plans and verify resilience through infrastructure monitoring and acceptance tests
- Produce clear progress reports, risk registers and decision logs in JIRA and Confluence, and present mitigation options to programme board
- Establish quality assurance and documentation standards so delivered components meet legal and operational requirements
