A public-sector IT team maintains a portfolio of business applications originally built in PowerBuilder, ASP and .NET, and this role exists to keep those systems stable while driving gradual modernization. The work focuses on application maintenance, incident handling and small functional changes, with hands-on use of PowerBuilder, .NET and PL/SQL alongside Windows Services and SAP SQLCA.
The mission
The team supports several legacy business applications used by internal users across public services, where availability and data integrity are critical. The technical landscape mixes PowerBuilder front-ends, ASP and .NET components, PL/SQL databases and integration through SAP SQLCA and distributed service architecture. Your work ensures these systems remain secure and performant while enabling stepwise technical upgrades.
On a day-to-day basis you will own production incidents, corrective maintenance and small evolutionary developments for legacy modules. You will work closely with functional analysts in a team that handles operational support, root-cause analysis and performance tuning, and you will document risks and technical decisions to support longer term modernization initiatives.
Your responsibilities
- Stabilise production systems by resolving incidents and delivering corrective fixes with clear rollback and test plans
- Improve application reliability by identifying root causes, implementing performance optimisations and hardening database logic in PL/SQL
- Deliver small functional changes and technical adaptations in PowerBuilder and .NET that meet analyst requirements and existing standards
- Maintain and operate Windows Services and integrations using SAP SQLCA, ensuring background jobs and interfaces run reliably
- Analyse architectural risks in the distributed service landscape and propose incremental modernisation steps that reduce technical debt
- Produce technical documentation, update runbooks and share knowledge with analysts and operations engineers
