The organisation manages large-scale wastewater treatment and resource recovery, operating a dedicated sludge drying line where dried sludge is reused as fuel and raw material. This role exists to operate and stabilise the sludge dryer and associated processing line, requiring practical knowledge of BA4 certification, industrial electricity and operation of a full continuous system.
The mission
You will join a 5-shift operations team responsible for the continuous running of a sludge processing and drying installation. The technical landscape combines process control panels, PLC-based automation, electrical power distribution and mechanical conveyors; the work ensures a reliable supply of dried sludge used for energy and reuse. Maintaining stable process parameters directly affects plant throughput and permit compliance.
On a day-to-day basis you will run process rounds, take samples, read trendings and adjust setpoints to keep the dryer within target ranges. You will diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, carry out preventive maintenance tasks, and keep clear operational records and reports. The team operates on a five-week cyclical roster with early, late, night and day shifts.
Your responsibilities
- Ensure stable dryer performance by monitoring trends, taking corrective actions and optimising process setpoints to meet quality and throughput targets
- Detect and resolve electrical and mechanical faults, executing repairs or coordinating technicians to minimise downtime
- Maintain preventive maintenance activities and log work to reduce repeat failures and extend equipment life
- Produce timely operational records, sample logs and shift handover reports using Microsoft 365 tools
- Follow health, safety and environmental procedures to keep the drying installation compliant with permits and internal rules
- Support incremental improvements to process stability and energy efficiency based on trend analysis and condition observations
